Nowadays, the general public are taking a growing interest in the conservation of the earth or natural environment. Whale or dolphin watching has become popular in various places. Indeed whale watches' interest has deepened from mere sporting to lectures by whale specialists. It is a great pleasure for me to open the meeting of the 10th anniversary of the Sea of Japan Cetology Research Group. I sincerely believe that your reports in the meeting might be important for cetology. I hope that you contribute to promoting education and interest in cetaceans among the general public.
